This morning's sermon on Acts 20:28-31 cautioned us to be on guard against the 'wolves'. To be able to recognize false teaching we must know what we believe. The pastor included Essential Doctrines of Orthodox Christianity with just a sampling of verses to support.
- Inerrancy of the Bible ~ 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21
- The Trinity
- The full Humanity and Full Deity of Jesus Christ ~ Deuteronomy 6:4: Matthew 1:20-23; John 1:4; John 20:30-31; Hebrews 1:1-3
- Original Sin (The Spiritual Lostness of the Human Race) ~ Genesis1:26-27; Romans 3:10-19; Ephesians 2:1-3
- Salvation by Grace alone, through Faith alone, in Christ alone ~ John 1:12-13; John 3:14-18; John 5:24; John 10:28-29; Acts 4:12; Romans 1:16-17; Romans 5:1; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:18-19
- The Substitutionary Atonement of Jesus Christ and His bodily Resurrection ~ Luke 23:46-49; Luke 24:1-35; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 3:23-26; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:1-24; 2 Corinthians 5:14-21;
- The Physical Return of Jesus Christ ~ 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-10; Revelation 3:10
This seems so basic yet is so refreshing. To me, this is the basis for a
simple faith based on truth.
And going through the verses made a great bible study for today!
